Water lillies and lotus?

are water lillies and lotus the same flower?

Water lillies and lotus?
A lotus is a white or pink water lily of the nelumbonaceae family of water lillies, the others being the nymphaeaceae family. The lotus is the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously. It flowers well above the surface of the water and will also grow in damp soil so may not look like a conventional water lily i.e.a flower sitting on top of the water.

So, a lotus is a water lily but not all water lillies are lotus flowers!
Reply:No - Lotus bloom in June (in the South); there are festivals for this event, they can get six feet high - spectacular.

Water lillies are flowers that generally lay on the surface of the water, and bloom for much longer periods.
Reply:no they are not. they are similar but not the same
