nobody that knows anything about racing measures speed in 0-60mph time. I am not trying to insult anyone, just trying to educate the asker of the question. You can take a ford escort and strip all the wieght out of it and it will run a 4.5 0-60mph time. This is because you do not need hp to run a quick 0-60 time because all cars can go 60mph, but when it comes to where you need the hp 60-100mph you see a huge drop off in these cars. The only times to use are 0-60 foot time and more importantly 1/4 mile time. While the lotus has a quick 0-60mph time, they really drop off when it comes to the 1/4 mile. they are not even a 12 second car which is really bad for the money they cost. This is because they have very little horsepower in todays world, they are just extremely light. If you want a tuner car then go with the evo, they are all wheel drive and already have a turbo so upgrades will be eaiser then they would with a 350z for example. If you want a car that is fast out of the box for 75k go with a Z06 vette, 505 hp low 12 high 11 second car with very good handling. If you want the fastest car on the road that you will modify go with a 04 cobra. They are the only cars on the planet that are under 50k that come with a built motor. This means that the stock motor they come with from the factory can handle up to 1000hp without any problems. You can get a 04 cobra with less then 10k miles for about 28k and if you put 8k into the car after that you will have a 9 second car. It just takes a kenne bell supercharger(and the products that come with it), exhaust, cold air intake, torco fuel additive, drag radials, and level 4 halfshafts for your independant rear supspension and you have yourself a 800+ horsepower vehical that can run in the high 9's. It sounds like from what you wrote that you are more into the tuners then the muscle cars so I would deffinately go with the evo if I were you. There are a few at the track that are running great 1/4 times and they handle extremely well with the all wheel drive. What ever you choose you will have a blast. Good luck and have fun

p.s. everything noted above is facts obtained from research there is no misinformation.
Reply:You should just get the Lotus Elise (it actually lists at about $45k, whether you can get it at that price or not) and make a couple modifications if necessary. That isn't all that much more than a Lancer Evolution, or a 350Z. The Lotus though is way better performing. It is quick-0-60 in ~4.5 sec, and also has superior handling-some say it is what defines excellent chassis performance. You don't really need to modify it anyway.
