What is the Lotus Sutra?

What is the Lotus Sutra and how does it help in dealing with painful emotion? Where can it be found?

What is the Lotus Sutra?
The Lotus Sutra is regarded as one of the most important and influential sutras, or sacred scriptures, of Mahayana Buddhism. The Lotus Sutra is unique among the teachings of Shakyamuni in that it affirms that the attainment of enlightenment is a possibility open to all people without distinction of race, gender, social standing, or education.

The aim of lotus sutra is to enable people living in the real world and facing real problems to become empowered and change their lives and society for the better. Each of us has the potential to attainment enlightenment in our present state. :)

"What you are practicing is the bodhisattva way and as you gradually advance in practice and learning you are all certain to attain Buddhahood." - Lotus Sutra Chapter 5
Reply:I practise Theravada Buddhism. This Sutra does not form part of our Dhama. It was purportedly written by the Mahayana sect over 500 years after the death of the Lord Buddha. My sect practices and teaches the older Buddhist scriptures which is why this sutra is not included. It contains parables related to timeless time and does not help at all with painful emotion. It would be better for you to meditate and reflect on the causes of the pain you experience, when you find the source then you can work to eliminate the causes and find the peace you seek. This process is often painful, but isn't all life suffering? The elimination of suffering is the Way and the Path is sometimes rocky....the Lord Buddha advises us...find the source of your suffering....throw it to the four winds....and be at Peace with yourself...for the best place to find peace is within yourself so you must first be at peace...you are a human being on the Path and are deserving of a peaceful existence....
Reply:It should be from Bhuddism or Hinduism.
Reply:In my humble opinion, painful emotions are better dealt with by something like mediation. Meditation allows you to put your thoughts into context so they are not controlling you. You learn to control them.
