Ok, I seen a picture of lotus seeds, and seriously, the look of them made me so ill. I have felt fine all day, so I wasn't sick beforehand. SOmething about them is wrong. Just thinking about them gives me the chills. Am I a headcase?

Reply:Oh wow.. no it's not just you! I seriously was grossed out by the lotus seeds.. and in the sense that it gave me the chills too. I hate anything with dots or small bumps or the like (ants, caviar, chickenpox, etc) Oh gosh the small black dots of the lotus seeds do give me the chills.

Is the Lotus Elise a good car? (the 2008 one)?
I was searching around and saw a bunch of people commenting about the Lotus Elise. Some say that it's an awesome car, while others say that it's an impractical, unreliable, high-maintenance go-kart.
So, what's your opinion? If you own one, do you think that they would be making a couple when I could actually buy them? I'm too poor to now.
Any input is appreciated.

~~Yes, I agree with everything your friends commented on the car. But do keep in mind, the most " hard-core" track-car of Lotus isn't the Elise, instead, it's the " Exige". The Elise is a light-weight racecar, designed and built to be raced on race tracks. For normal driving uses, say in the city, or the streets..sure it's a head turner, but its as impractical as riding a bike to wherever you want to go to.
~~The only luxury amenity you will find on the Elise is the electric windows..say what? yes, the at least you don't have to scrow down the windows.....yikes....

Reply:My dad bought my sister one when she got her license and i rode in it once and never wanted to again. it is so uncomfertable, metal floors, so small i couldn`t keep my legs straight, it is scary when a transpot drives past and blows all of the wind and shakes your car, it does go pretty fast and has good acceleration but i think it is an unreliable go-kart type of car. i think hers was a lotus elise r or something but i wouldn`t buy one. i prefer the slk55 amg that she has over the lotus

So it is a two seater and has little or no frills.
If you want ride comfort, and a killer stereo it is not for you.
By the time you can afford one who knows (Lotus was bought by an India firm).

When Bill Gates came out with Windows 1.0 in 1985 and Microsoft was born, more companies began building truly personal computers. Companies like Dell, Gateway, Hewlitt Packard, etc. Why? Because Bill Gates showed you could use Windows 1.0 without a degree in computer programming. Companies like Lotus (which was bought out by IBM in 1995) concentrated on the business side while Microsoft, and then Apple, concentrated on the "civilian" side of computers and software for people like you and me.
The major difference between Lotus and Microsoft is how things are done. In other words, compatibility. If you create a spreadsheet with Lotus 1-2-3 and one with Microsoft Excel, both spreadsheets can contain the exact same information. But Excel might not be able to read the Lotus spreadsheet and vice versa.

A dear friend of mine (or rather, a friend who has recently crossed the line to lover, but we are NOT a couple) has eyes for only one blossom. And that would be the serene beauty of the lotus.
However, my lover and I are two birds of the same, off-beat feather. We have a taste for the Dark and Gothic. As such, he has always wanted to see a black lotus.
I decided that I want to grow him a lotus now. But I need to ask, how on earth can I properly dye one black?

I want to start meditation in lotus position. I tried this meditation several times and wonder how you can meditate or concentrate if it is so painfull? Is it healthy? Can I damage my muscles or joints while meditating in this position? I am 30 years old.
I saw today the 16 ears old guy in India who was meditating for 10 months. How is it possible if it is so painfull?

It depends on what kind of meditation your doing. The Buddhists usually sit in a lotus position, but it takes a little while to get your muscles and ligaments to bend that far. Yoga is a precursor to meditation. The object is to get the muscles so limber, your body will relax completely. A relaxed body is a healthy body. Next you learn to relax the mind. For that I would suggest mantra meditation. It's the easiest and quickest method for transcending the thinking mind. Why do you want to transcend? When you turn off your reactive mind you float into the realm of expanded awareness, bliss, total relaxation. Sounds too good to be true? Trust me, it happens.
Reply:Personally I recommend AGAINST meditating in any of the lotus positions Full lotus. Half lotus, or quarter lotus (often called the burmese style).
I perfonally recommend the seiza position (where you are sitting on your heels (if possible) if your ligaments are not this supple; place a firm pillow between your feet to raise your buttocks off your heels, or use a seiza bench. Dimensions for a seiza bench are below if you do wood work or know someone who can make a bench for you.
My second choice is sitting in a chair about two or three inches from the back rest (to prevent you from leaning back and falling asleep with both feet flat on the floor.
I do NOT recommend lying down to meditate; because you will more than likely fall asleep and not meditate very much.
Seiza bench dimensions 6 inches wide, 18 inches long. The legs are cut at an angle (7 inches in front, and 8 inches in the back) because you legs will be at an angle with your knees on the floor, and your insteps folded under the bench. Place the outside legs 1 inch away from either edge. This give you room to hold and move the bench.
A lot of people place hinges on the legs so the bench may be folded into a compact area.
You can adjust the length of the legs for your comfort. Personally I use a bench that is 6 inches in front, and 6 5/8ths of an inches in back.
I recommend seiza because you can inhale and exale fully without any stress, and the position is a LOT more comfortable than any of the lotus positions.
The problem with the lotus position is that we here in the west have a tendency to sit in chairs instead of on the floor or ground as they do in the East; and our ligaments and joints become stiff.

all I remember is that they root at the bottom of a pail or bucket of water. And it has to be early in the spring + indoors around here because it's too cool right now to attempt this beautiful flower outside--pls advise. That is IF you've been successful/experienced at growing lotus flowers.

the lotus is normally grown in tropical weather .and frankly i never try with the seeds .i have doz zen in my pond they live in very soft mud ,and can put in bucket size 12 inch dia .they like raw peanuts for food .crash the peanuts and place under the roots.they grow back after they fall .if you have a chance you can get the tablets in BKK for that plants .need full sun.the water depth is 1/2 meter is ok .pond dia;must 4feet .so the leafs can spread .

I am having a debate with my english teacher tomorrow about the lotus eaters and what they stand for i said that i think they stand for like th worldy desires because tehy gaive "honeyed" lotus which mean they would like it just like the worldly thing we like in the world that distract from our goals. And also that they could represents the 7 deadly sin which are: wrath, sloth, gluttony, avarice, vainity, envy, and lust which also distract us from our goals in life and cause us to have problems in life but my teacher says they mean like drugs and crap because they make them fall asleep but i think it is deeper than that because i am all like philophical and FYI i can't spell worth crap so please forgive spelling thank for all the help!

I am a 16 year old kid from wisconsin and i think am going to be buying a lotus elise in the near future.. I have been mowing lawns and shoveling driveways sence i was 11.. i have saved up $40,000, ON MY OWN.. (so i dont want anybody calling my spoiled or rich) and i was just wondering what model and year to get.. im getting it used.. i also DO have the driving experience to drive it... i have been go cart racing sence i was 5 and when i was 9 i started driving my dads (manual trans)porsche around my gradpas company's parking lot.. or if you have an idea for a different car please feel free to say.. thanks to you all... serious answers only please

Will Buddhist give the merits of the Lotus Sutra to anybody?
I think that merits of the Lotus Sutra will not be given to anybody at all. it is because nobody in the whole world do not want to give such merits as Buddha said. They will always find reason not to accept somebody as votary of the Lotus Sutra and so such sutra will remain only myth because Buddhist do not want to share its merits.
or, merits will be given to some other person rather to the votary of the Lotus Sutra? such merits are like dissapointed girl that gives her body to the very first person she meets. I have experienced too many times in my life how people, expecially girls, refuse to give their love to one person but very easily they give it to some other wicked person.

Most likely, you'll want the action to send you an email back with the person's response. You'll have to collect and collate the data yourself; Notes won't do it for you unless you have some sort of database you can tie into.
For more complex surveys (multiple questions with multiple answers), look into a free survey service like Zoomerang.

How do I move a Lotus Notes client without uninstalling and reinstalling?
We are using Lotus Notes 6.5.3 on a small network. Each client logs into the Lotus email server. Someone told me it was possible to move the clients from one computer to another without having to uninstall and reinstall. Is it possible? This would be necessary if one of my users was to move from one desk to another.

I don't use Airset, but use LOtus notes. In LN, open your calendar, click on File%26gt;Export (leave the option on all documents), save the file somewhere, then go to airset and see if you can import that file somehow.

Can Lotus Notes 7 be configured for Hotmail?
Help. I am at a loss here. I've tried to google the answers and I get a lot of doubletalk and weird banter. I just want to know how to configure my Lotus Notes client to receive (and send from) Windows Live Mail (aka Hotmail). Now, to me it stands to reason that if it can be done with Outlook and Outlook Express, why the heck can't it be done with Notes? I left my old company, but I have a 7 client just sitting on my home machine with nothing to do. What a waste. HELP!

I have used them when I was a chef in both Singapore and Japan, the first fellow is right you use them for steaming or baking foods like fish or stuffed meats like chicken or pork, they use them in Hawaii for a wrap around the pigs at Luau's
Taste wise and bit earthy, slightly smokey (that is how they dry them over fires) not offensive, we used them for rice dumplings, steaming whole or fillets of fish with mushrooms and other seasonings, and you can even wrap pork roasts and roast them slowly in the oven for that Hawaiian Luau taste, without having to dig a pit.
In Thailand they also use them for steaming rice in bamboo steamers for both sweet and plain Jasmine Rice, sometimes the Black Sticky rice is done in them also. They keep for ever, you just have to soak them in water to soften them and you can use the center spine for a tie when making bundles by splitting the leaves in half.

I see Lotus Notes mentioned in many job ads, and yet the books available on line (like Amazon etc) seem to have somewhat older reference books. How old is this software? If I buy a book published in 2002 is that too old or not?

My 3 cats love it. The shelves have carpet, they are not bare. They like to play and perch. Plus it's not ugly like the other products on the market. I definitely recommend.

My cats have a multilevel cat tree that has shelves. But the shelves are carpeted to keep them from sliding off of the shelf. If they are running 100 miles and hour, they depend on that carpet to grab onto and to stop them. The tree looks really fancy for the house, but I don't know how much the cat will like it.

In Lotus Notes can I view an attachment directly from a view?
I am using Lotus Notes version 7. I created a form that allows a user to add and store an attachment by using a rich text lite field. Thus I have documents in my database that contain a rich text field. This rich text field contains the attachment. Only one attachment can exist in a document.
My question is right now the user must go into the view, open the document, and then double-click on the attachment in the rich text field to open it. Is there any way to open the attachment from the view without having to open the document first?
As far as I know a notes view column cannot directly access a rich text field.

Candied Lotus???
My daughter has been out of school for a few weeks due to a an accident. (She's fine now). Her friend made her a care baggie because she missed the Chinese New Year celebration. Inside were different candies.
Two of them we can't figure out what they were but they were very tasty. One was a rust color and had a couple of holes going through it. It was oval shaped and had a taste between a potato and a piece of coconut. The second had a similar taste but it was coated in powdered sugar and was long and slender and white. There were also small off white balls with the same taste as well.
The teacher said it was Lotus but when we went to chinatown here in Oakland to buy some, the taste was horrible. Yes it was covered in what we thought was powdered sugar but ...Yuck!!!
I know we should ask the classmate but she is out of town for an early Spring Break, so does anyone out there know what it is and if you live in the SF/Bay Area could you tell us where to buy some??? Thanks!

My fiance is beginning the research needed to open a Flower and Garden nursury. One of her favorite flowers is a Lotus, but she was told that they are illegal in the US.

From the little research I have just done, I have found references to it's legality (most weight favors legal) and illegality.
For example Oriental Poppies are illegal to grow in the USA. Now just imagine the DEA taking time out to bother with Poppy plants in little old lady's homes (sure if one planted 1-10 acres then there might be some heat). Go to EBay and there are about 50 vendors that sell Oriental Poppy seeds. In fact I live in Florida and I have over 100 oriental poppies growing in my back yard (not your most liberal state.....I don't even think the cops have a clue and if they came to site me I'd have a good laugh and say charge me with something, I want to go to Court) The DA would be begging me to settle...NO I WANT MY DAY IN COURT...Um sorry Master Quark we dismissed all charges!
I would not worry..I've seen them sold in many shops that sell water plants. They might be technically illegal to grow but legal to sell.....I believe the act that made Opium illegal in the USA do not include the seeds (selling of)...or how could you buy a poppy seed role (somebody sells the seeds) and the plants are not much removed from a seed?

Boy have I got some great medical stories from my India travels..Here's one of my best!
In Haridwar a lady had both her legs severed by falling under a moving train...I had to beg a Mr. Sing to remove his turban (banned by his religion but what a tourniquet, 5 meters long). And then I offered 500 Rupees (a small fortune about $10) for someone to bring me strong! strong! liquor! What a scene, I was covered in blood from head to toe. And my bags left without me.
The Station Master had the train stopped at the next station and all my belongings showed up-including a $1000.00 (1989) Nikon camera. I was then bathed (literally) and given new clothes and put on the next train VIP status AC Coupe (no charge, my money was refunded for my original ticket). And everyone on my car and others kept stopping by and commenting on what I had done. I suspect the SM told the conductor and he told the passengers.
Ah India (now they appreciate a good deed)!

From the little research I have just done, I have found references to it's legality (most weight favors legal) and illegality.
For example Oriental Poppies are illegal to grow in the USA. Now just imagine the DEA taking time out to bother with Poppy plants in little old lady's homes (sure if one planted 1-10 acres then there might be some heat). Go to EBay and there are about 50 vendors that sell Oriental Poppy seeds. In fact I live in Florida and I have over 100 oriental poppies growing in my back yard (not your most liberal state.....I don't even think the cops have a clue and if they came to site me I'd have a good laugh and say charge me with something, I want to go to Court) The DA would be begging me to settle...NO I WANT MY DAY IN COURT...Um sorry Master Quark we dismissed all charges!
I would not worry..I've seen them sold in many shops that sell water plants. They might be technically illegal to grow but legal to sell.....I believe the act that made Opium illegal in the USA do not include the seeds (selling of)...or how could you buy a poppy seed role (somebody sells the seeds) and the plants are not much removed from a seed?

Boy have I got some great medical stories from my India travels..Here's one of my best!
In Haridwar a lady had both her legs severed by falling under a moving train...I had to beg a Mr. Sing to remove his turban (banned by his religion but what a tourniquet, 5 meters long). And then I offered 500 Rupees (a small fortune about $10) for someone to bring me strong! strong! liquor! What a scene, I was covered in blood from head to toe. And my bags left without me.
The Station Master had the train stopped at the next station and all my belongings showed up-including a $1000.00 (1989) Nikon camera. I was then bathed (literally) and given new clothes and put on the next train VIP status AC Coupe (no charge, my money was refunded for my original ticket). And everyone on my car and others kept stopping by and commenting on what I had done. I suspect the SM told the conductor and he told the passengers.
Ah India (now they appreciate a good deed)!

I just received some Blue Lotus and am not sure how much to take/add to water as a tea. Any suggestions?

The tea's color and taste varied by lotus species, but not by brewing practice (perhaps the difference could have been due to the difference in flower-species 'form'; shredded vs. halves). Blue lotus tea was deep green-brown in color with a pronounced bitter and vegetable taste. White lotus tea was a paler shade (similar to green tea), less bitter, and less vegetable. Both types had a nice 'flowery' taste.

My daughter has been out of school for a few weeks due to a an accident. (She's fine now). Her friend made her a care baggie because she missed the Chinese New Year celebration. Inside were different candies.
Two of them we can't figure out what they were but they were very tasty. One was a rust color and had a couple of holes going through it. It was oval shaped and had a taste between a potato and a piece of coconut. The second had a similar taste but it was coated in powdered sugar and was long and slender and white. There were also small off white balls with the same taste as well.
The teacher said it was Lotus but when we went to chinatown here in Oakland to buy some, the taste was horrible. Yes it was covered in what we thought was powdered sugar but ...Yuck!!!
I know we should ask the classmate but she is out of town for an early Spring Break, so does anyone out there know what it is and if you live in the SF/Bay Area could you tell us where to buy some??? Thanks!

my favorite is lotus root soup with beef - essentially simmering chunks of any beef cut that can withstand long cooking periods with slices or lotus root, seasoned with salt and perhaps a little ginger.

1 lb Lotus root
1/2 lb Pork butt
2 Slices fresh ginger root
1 tb Peanut oil
2 tb Sugar

2 tb White vinegar
Cornstarch paste
Instructions
Place pork %26amp; ginger in boiling water: simmer for 30 minutes. Immediately transfer pork to bowl of iced water to cool for another 30 minutes. Slice pork with the grain in 2" strips. Wash %26amp; peel fresh lotus root. Slice crosswise into 1/4" pieces. Blanch for 10 minutes in same water used for pork; drain in cold water. Arrange lotus root in circle of overlapping slices on round serving plate; mound pork in center. Cover %26amp; reserve.
In wok or saucepan, heat oil to medium hot. Add sugar, water, soy sauce %26amp; vinegar. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then add cornstarch paste to make light sauce. Cook briefly. Pour sauce over lotus root %26amp; pork. Allow to marinate for at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve slightly warm.

My lotus plants have been invaded by teeny-weeny, grayish-brown, crawling bugs that mass on the stems.?
If I spray the plants with Raid, it makes the leaves quickly rot, i.e., they are no longer naturally water repellent. But the bugs are gone! What other insecticide would be less harmful to the tender, new lotus leaves?

You can make up an insect soap that will kill them, use a spray bottle of about a quart size and add about a teaspoon of liquid ivory dish soap or hand soap, after you add the soap let the water in the bottle slowly so it don't go all bubbly, put the sprayer on and move the bottle upside down and back a few times, gently, to mix, then spray it on the leaves and stems generously, you can use your hands to kinda catch the water mixture as you spray, it really works well I have done this numerous times, another I have heard of is to put the plant in a shower and let the water (luke warm) run on it and push the bugs off. Good Luck.

Hi, I'm using Lotus Notes and for some time now all my mails printed in Notes are corrupt.
All word are printed horizontally on the sheet. The printer is fine, only the emails from Lotus Notes cause this problem.

Check to see what the default paper orientation is in your printer driver. Set it to portrait.
The thing is, Lotus Notes does not set a paper orientation on it's own, and will print to whatever the printer's default orientation is at the time. Other common applications such as Word or Excel send the document's selected orientation to the printer.
