Are Lotus flowers available for purchase in the US or are they illegal? I can find no information on this.?

My fiance is beginning the research needed to open a Flower and Garden nursury. One of her favorite flowers is a Lotus, but she was told that they are illegal in the US.

Are Lotus flowers available for purchase in the US or are they illegal? I can find no information on this.?
From the little research I have just done, I have found references to it's legality (most weight favors legal) and illegality.

For example Oriental Poppies are illegal to grow in the USA. Now just imagine the DEA taking time out to bother with Poppy plants in little old lady's homes (sure if one planted 1-10 acres then there might be some heat). Go to EBay and there are about 50 vendors that sell Oriental Poppy seeds. In fact I live in Florida and I have over 100 oriental poppies growing in my back yard (not your most liberal state.....I don't even think the cops have a clue and if they came to site me I'd have a good laugh and say charge me with something, I want to go to Court) The DA would be begging me to settle...NO I WANT MY DAY IN COURT...Um sorry Master Quark we dismissed all charges!

I would not worry..I've seen them sold in many shops that sell water plants. They might be technically illegal to grow but legal to sell.....I believe the act that made Opium illegal in the USA do not include the seeds (selling of)...or how could you buy a poppy seed role (somebody sells the seeds) and the plants are not much removed from a seed?

Below is somebody selling the extract from the Lotus flower..on the Internet:

Legal Herbs And Natural Smoking Herbs - Rare, Potent %26amp; Exotic.

Smoking herbs may also mean smoking for ritual or incense purpose. These exotic herbs are not all sold for use in pipes. Buy legal herbs and smoking herbs of the highest quality and freshness. The legal herbs sold here (even in bulk ) are premium smoking grade herb. There is a BIG difference. All of the smoking herbs on this page are high grade wild crafted or organic. Due to the possible use of these herbs as smoking herb an adult signature is required for all orders. The descriptions listed below are very brief and may or may not be supported by scientific studies. Most of these herbs have hundreds of different uses. Educating yourself on any that you purchase will enable you to get much more out of them. These legal herbs are pure leaf or flower: not "herb". There is a big difference. If you were to purchase Wild Dagga "herb" you would be purchasing the whole plant ground up. For smoking purposes that is certainly not what you want. Our herbs and blends are processed by hand using several different patent pending techniques depending on the herb to remove unwanted debris in the herbs and save the leaf without turning it to an un-smokeable powder. You can only find this exclusive premium product right here.

Oh, you are a doctor...

Boy have I got some great medical stories from my India travels..Here's one of my best!

In Haridwar a lady had both her legs severed by falling under a moving train...I had to beg a Mr. Sing to remove his turban (banned by his religion but what a tourniquet, 5 meters long). And then I offered 500 Rupees (a small fortune about $10) for someone to bring me strong! strong! liquor! What a scene, I was covered in blood from head to toe. And my bags left without me.

The Station Master had the train stopped at the next station and all my belongings showed up-including a $1000.00 (1989) Nikon camera. I was then bathed (literally) and given new clothes and put on the next train VIP status AC Coupe (no charge, my money was refunded for my original ticket). And everyone on my car and others kept stopping by and commenting on what I had done. I suspect the SM told the conductor and he told the passengers.

Ah India (now they appreciate a good deed)!

And to this day, I wonder If that woman made it! I'll never know!
