Is Lotus Notes a current software? I want to buy a book..?

I see Lotus Notes mentioned in many job ads, and yet the books available on line (like Amazon etc) seem to have somewhat older reference books. How old is this software? If I buy a book published in 2002 is that too old or not?

Lotus Notes has been around for nearly 20 years. The latest version, released in the summer of 2007 is Notes 8.0.

One of the hallmarks of Notes is backwards-compatibility with earlier versions. Pick up a book on Notes 6.0 (or later) and you will be pretty up-to-date on using the product.
