We generally think of the lotus as a sign of rebirth, renewal and often linked with the essence of life or an awakening.

Reply:A lotus flower comes from the murky gross deepest deapths of the water, and rises to the surface to bloom into a beautiful flower. It represents triumph over adversity, and overcoming the darkness, and "blooming" into something beautiful.
Reply:its a new begining, and a sign of hope, as they grow in dark muddy places it symbolises that even from the worst situation something wonderful can happen
Reply:The lotus has a lot of meanings!! It depends what culture you come from, that's all. Tattoos of it, I'm guessing, probably have more of a sexual connotation, but the Lotus is also used heavily in white magic, angel magic, chakra healing, crystal healing, and as a cinese symbol for purity.

The seven pointed lotus is used to represent the gateway of the soul as it is the symbol (and relation of) a specific chakra point. It is also a sacred symbol.

If you want to know the entire of all the meanings, then you can email me and I'd be happy to discuss it ^_^ (there are simply too many meaning and too much detail for this column.) missytetra@yahoo.co.uk . Good luck!
