Insurance on Lotus Elise for 18 or 19 year old?

I want to get a new Lotus Elise when I am 18 or 19, but it really depends how much the insurance will be. I reside on Long Island, NY but when I get the car will be going to school in either Albany, NY or Tallahasse, FL. Some help? Thanks.

Insurance on Lotus Elise for 18 or 19 year old?
Lets see....inexperienced driver + fast, demanding sports car with unbeLIEVable repair costs....

I concur with the daddy comment. Must be nice to have a dad who would even consider letting this happen.

Minor fender-benders in an Elise can cost almost 20 grand to fix. The bodywork is made of very large, hand-installed fiberglass panels. There are far fewer pieces than most cars, so if you damage one panel, you're replacing what would be 2 or 3 panels on most cars. And they're low-volume parts, too, so they're expensive. And they're difficult to align, so installation is expensive, and is best handled by a Lotus specialist. Some paint colors are such that if they get scratched, the ENTIRE PANEL (which could be half the car) has to be re-painted for it to ever look right again. Any damage you do to this car will be very, very expensive to fix.

This will all be reflected in the cost of insurance.

Dude, get a Miata or MR2 or something. Do NOT get something like an Elise as your first sports car. Save it for when you're sure you've made most of your stupid mistakes, and you aren't parking on a college campus full of assholes who will damage your car.

Maybe convince daddy to buy you a supercharged Exige as a college graduation present?

Even if you CAN afford it, it will be a pain in the ***.
Reply:Ask your insurance agent. That's the person who can give you a price. Anyone else will just be speculating. However the Lotus ain't gonna be cheap hoss. Must be nice to have a daddy who'll throw that kind of money your way.
Reply:Whoo, boy, get your wallet out! It's gonna scare you bad!

The first response is right - the only place to get an answer you can trust is an insurance agent who has your driving record to work with. But a car with that kind of performance in the hand of a young inexperienced driver means either monthly insurance payments that look more like they belong to a mortgage, or no insurance at all. My bet is on the latter.
Reply:IF you can find someone willing to write the coverage, better plan on insurance costing between $1500 and $2000 PER MONTH.
Reply:Oh nooo. Just get a boat, fill it up with cash and take it straight to the insurance man. Repeat several times and you might have the insurance covered for the first month, 'cause thats gonna cost boatloads.
